River RisingSet in Pilotville, Louisiana, in 1927, Athol Dickson builds line upon line one extraordinary tale of mystery and intrigue. He brilliantly weaves touchy issues together to create suspense, disbelief, and hope for a better tomorrow. Follow the journey of one man, Reverend Hale Porter, to the small swampy outpost on the Mississippi River. His simple task of finding his roots leads him on a search for one missing Hannah Lamont. Porter’s simple steps of obedience open a look into a disturbing past that should not exist in the present. Although the book wouldn’t be considered a thriller, it softly and steadily builds questions in one’s mind and keeps you guessing for what is to come. Just when you think you have his end game figured out, Dickson wraps the story up in a full circle revelation that leaves one wanting to simply obey God and serve one’s fellow man. After reading River Rising you certainly have a bird’s eye view of God’s interesting way of bringing the puzzle pieces of life together. Not only does Dickson lay out an interesting mystery to be solved, but he digs deep into the mind and soul of the Reverend Hale Porter, bringing a good solid message to any Christian today. An enjoyable read from start to finish, Athol Dickson has truly tapped into a fascinating yet disturbing world, with a melting pot of fresh spins on dialogue and character interaction. If this is the kind of writing Athol Dickson delivers, I can hardly wait to dive into some of his earlier works and would certainly hope he has many more to come. Buy River Rising from Amazon.com
